Expired Certificate Error Solution For Nokia 5800 and All s60v5

I used Nokia PC Suite to backup all these four components instead of using Nokia 5800 inbuilt backup function, which doesn’t has an option to backup Notes (but I’m not sure the ALL settings will back up the Notes).
Remove the microSD memory card.
When the phone is powered on, don’t simply remove the memory card. Otherwise, the memory card content will likely corrupt.
For past few days, I’d been busy finding workable solution to the annoyed “expired certificate” problem that happen when I attempt to install SIS/SISX program files in Nokia 5800.
There are forums and blogs mentioned that the version 10 firmware is well known for this “expired certificate” bug and thus should upgrade to the latest firmware version 11.0.008.
However, my Nokia 5800 firmware is already at this latest version out of the box. So, what’s next?
i had purchased my new nokia 5800 set.and i was really disappointed when i saw all this crap.i was like what the heck man.what is the use of this set when i cant even update or install anything.i was really disappointed but then i got something interesting to fix this crap and here it is to share with you
But now, I’m pleased to tell you that I’ve fixed this “silly bug” at last try,
How to solve the Nokia 5800 “Expired Certificate” error that fails most SIS program files installation?
To be frank, I just don’t believe that one-line reply could be a real solution for me. But, I’ve ran out of ideas and found nothing newer than his suggestion.
So, I simply take it as last resource to try. Eventually, this simple trick does works magically, and I can’t wait to tell him how excited and grateful I am!
For reference, here is the solution in detail
(in case you’re not sure what additional steps I’d done on top of his one-line guide):
Backup all messages, notes, calendar entries, and contacts.
To remove the microSD card when the Nokia 5800 is switched on, press the power key (the button next to the power charging port), scroll down to locate and select Remove Memory Card, opt “Yes” as the “Removing memory card will close all open applications. Remove anyway?” message is displayed.
Shortly after, the “Remove Memory Card and press OK” message appears, and then the microSD is ready to be unplugged or removed from the dedicated slot.
Notes, both SIM card and microSD card slot are next to each other on the same side (another defect, personally), don’t be careless and end up corrupting the SIM card (if you happen remove SIM card instead of microSD card).
Format the Nokia 5800
Access to touch keypad and enter *#7370# secret code (not so secret, anyway) to restore phone settings to factory default (even the user data and files are deleted).
Next, you’re prompted to enter the Nokia phone lock code. The default is 12345, if this code hasn’t been changed by yourself or any one.

Then, the phone restarts and you’ve to select the country region (just select your own country from the list, in this case), followed by request to enter current date and time.
When the phone is ready, power it off again to re-insert the memory card (for highly safety measure, unless there are nothing important kept in the memory card, e.g. picture, music, documents, etc).
As the phone is switched on again with memory card inserted, the “preparing memory card” message appears.
Finally, I’m happy to be able install all my wanted Nokia 5800 programs and games without getting the “Expired Certificate” error message that says “Certificate may not yet be valid, is expired or phone’s date setting may be incorrect”

How Strong Is Your iPhone Signal? Find Out Now!

Have you ever wondered how strong your iPhone signal really is? Sure you can count the number of bars on your screen, but it’s not really specific. With this new tip, we’ll show you how you can convert the signal bars into an actual number. The digits are measured in decibels and the closer to zero, the stronger the signal.

This would come in handy, as an example, if you find yourself in a dead zone. It would be easier to track which area will allow you to make that important call. We’ve all been there, holding ours phones up like the Statue of Liberty trying to achieve a single bar.
I went ahead and dove into the steps on my iPhone 4. It does access a hidden area of your phone so proceed with caution. What we do in the name of technology! Your iPhone does not need to be jailbroken and the process is simple.
I’m not sure if it works for all iPhone models or in all countries for that matter, but if you would like to see the results for yourself, here are the steps:
Step 1: Dial *3001#12345#* on your iPhone then press Call.
Step 2: You’ll now enter Field Test mode. You’ll notice a signal strength indicator on the upper left hand corner of your screen. You can toggle between signal strength bars and a number by simply taping on it. At this point, press the home button to exit the app or if you would like the feature to be permanent, continue on. Don’t worry, the process is completely reversible.
Step 3: Hold down on the Power button until you see the ‘slide to power off’ bar.  Do not power off the device.
Step 4: Press down on the Home button until the app closes and you return to your home screen.
That’s it. Even when restarting the iPhone, the signal strength can be toggled between bars and numbers. The closer your number is to zero, the stronger your signal is.
To return to the default bars permanently, follow these steps:
Step 1: Dial *3001#12345#* on your iPhone then press Call.
Step 2: Press on your Home Button once.
The second step essentially closes the Field Test mode. You won’t see it on your iPhone again unless you repeat the process. Special thanks to Redmond Pie reader Eric Yun for the tip via email!

How to increase S60/V2/V3/V5 mobile speed? tricks

I know we the users of nokia S60 or S60v3 users get annoyed by the slowness of our mobile phone frequently. Sometimes you need to wait for several seconds to just open a folder! Pretty annoying isn't it. I found a solution to this. The following tutorial will make your phone literally faster in overall operation. Its real no fake and you will feel it instantly.

This is a crazy simple trick to believe. So dont get away after this point. Your patience will be rewarded.

1. Change your phones’ date to the 01.05.2005
2. Go to the calendar
3. Now we need to create two new to-do’s (Options > New entry > To-do)
4. These two to-do’s need to have the following information:

Add Bluetooth

Let's face it: using a cell phone while driving is distracting at the very least but, more importantly, it can be downright dangerous. Hands-free, in-car phones are certainly less distracting, but they have the huge disadvantage of not being portable. However, Bluetooth changes all of that by providing the safety and convenience of a hands-free, in-car phone while still keeping the flexibility a cell phone provides. So by now, you're probably wondering how to get Bluetooth in your car.

If your car is a high-end 2004 model or newer, contact your dealer; your vehicle may already be Bluetooth capable. If this is the case, you simply need a Bluetooth cell phone. The only catch is that your cell phone must be able to communicate with the Bluetooth device in your car, and not all models do. (For more on the compatibility issues, read "The many faces of Bluetooth.") Your best bet is to check with the parts department at your local dealership, which should have a list of compatible phones.

If your car is not Bluetooth equipped, don't fret. Numerous cellular phone and aftermarket companies make adapter kits, starting at about $200. Motorola, Nokia, and Sony Ericsson all make auto kits that work with their Bluetooth phones. Parrot, a leading aftermarket company, offers several different systems that can either be plugged into a cigarette lighter or installed by a professional who embeds the system into your vehicle. The plug-and-go systems are handy for people who want to be up and running quickly or for those who switch vehicles often. The best part about most of the aftermarket systems is that they work with almost all Bluetooth-equipped cell phones.

If you're handy and feel comfortable taking apart your dashboard and miscellaneous covers that hide your car's electronics, you can install these systems on your own. Be aware, some of the kit manufacturers void their products' warranty if they're not installed by a professional.

Whether you hire a professional to install the kit or do it yourself, keep a couple of things in mind. To get the best results, mount the microphone no more than 16 inches from your mouth, either adjacent to your rearview mirror, on your headliner, or on the overhead console. Be sure the path between the microphone and your mouth is not blocked by anything, such as the sun visor or rearview mirror, and isn't in line with direct airflow from your air vents.

While it's obvious that none of the components should interfere with the seats, the shifter, or the mirrors, be especially careful that nothing is in the path of the air bag, or serious injury could result. It's not always obvious where air bags deploy, so consult your owner's manual or call your dealer if you are unsure about installing the system yourself.

Unlock Memory Card if you forgot its password

Now from this simple method you can unlock your memory cards if you forget its password. You just need to follow below tips to unlock your memory card and reset memory card password.
So there are two types of methods for recovering the password of your memory card with the help of nokia phone.
For Nokia s60 1st and 2nd edition phones.
1. First Install FExplorer in your phone memory.
2. Got to drive C: , you will find a file called mmcstore
3. Send it to your pc directly and open it in notepad or rename the file.
4. At the end of the file you will find your password.
For Nokia S60 3rd Phones, Nokia N-Series and Nokia E-Series
There is almost no way yet known to hack the memory card password in case of these types of phone but there is a way to do it some of the s60 3rd edition phones and almost all the E-series phones.
The remote lock option in E-Series phone allows you to unlock your phone by sending a sms.
The only thing you have to do is to activate this feature by going to Tools | Settings | Security | Phone and SIM | Allow remote lock menu. The password of your memory card will be your remote lock message.
So you have to just send a sms containing your remote lock message that will automatically change your memory card password.
If you have any questions or problems in following the above procedure you can comment below we will help you.

All Symbian Mobile Tips

Tip 1 : Do u know how to use the edit button (abc or pencil button)?
Heres how... in the inbox for example; u wanna delete multiple sms, simply hold the edit button, scroll down, and then, press c to delete the marked sms. The edit button can also b used to copy and past text in sms, simply hold it and scroll across, choose copy. pretty good for placing song names in ngages
Tip 2 : Shit happens, on a smartphone, its inevitable u do something wrong, and this calls for a format of fone. to format the fone, press *#7370#, then enter the lock code, which is the sec code of the fone. NOTE : batt must b full, else if format is disrupted by low batt, consequences will b disatrous I heard the code *#7780# works too, pretty much the same i tink.
for 6600 users, to format the fone, theres an alternative way. Press and hold <3>, <*>, and the buttons, then power on fone, keep holding on the 3 buttons, till u come to a format screen. tis method ONLY works on 6600, and need not enter the sec code. BUT sec code wun be reset to default 12345.
There are two kinds of formatting: hard formatting and soft formatting HARD formatting: This reformats completely the C-drive. All applications and files stored on this drive will be lost and clean but default files will be rewritten. This is a deep reset.
HOW? Again there are two ways:
1) *#7370#
2) When unable to startup your phone: press and hold the green (talk) key on the left + number 3 on the keypad + the * key and then turn the phone on. This trick works on every S60 v7.0 and it works fine on my 6630 too but without formatting screen...
Tip 3 : TO NGAGE USERS; Did u know u can install .sis files simply using the cable given? Juz plug it in, place the .sis file anywhere on e: (the mmc), not in any folders, root of e:, disconnect, then look for it in manager.
Tip 4: Save on battery and system memory being used by regulary checking the task manager which can be accessed by holding down the menu button!!
Tip 5: Type *#06# to display your IMEI serial number, very valuable for the unlocking your phone to other sim cards...
Tip 6: Save memory when installing apps, by installing over bluetooth. This can be done using the nokia phone suite and a bluetooth serial connection. Only works with .SIS files, so java still has to be sent to the phone, but will save space when using .SIS files.
Tip 7: Operator logos Use a filemanager like FExplorer or SeleQ to add the folders: "c:/system/Apps/phone/oplogo". Add a .bmp picture to folder "oplogo" and restart your phone! The .bmp picture size needs to be: 97 x 25 pixels
Tip 8: BlueJacking First up, you need to know what Bluetooth is. There are lots of types of modern devices that incorporate Bluetooth as one of their many features. PDAs, mobile phones and laptops are a few of these modern devices. Bluetooth means that Bluetooth enabled devices can send things like phonebook/address book contacts, pictures & notes to other Bluetooth enabled devices wirelessly over a range of about 10 metres. So, we've got past the boring part. Now, using a phone with Bluetooth, you can create a phonebook contact and write a message, eg. 'Hello, you've been bluejacked', in the 'Name' field. Then you can search for other phones with Bluetooth and send that phonebook contact to them. On their phone, a message will popup saying "'Hello, you've been bluejacked' has just been received by Bluetooth" or something along those lines. For most 'victims' they will have no idea as to how the message appeared on their phone.
Tip 9: While you are viewing a picture in your phone's gallery, press one of these shortcut keys (definitely works on 6600, not sure about other symbians)
1 - turn image anticlockwise
3 - turn image clockwise
* - toggle on/off of full screen
5 - zoom in
0 - zoom out

Tip 10: Operator logos

Use a filemanager like FExplorer or SeleQ to add the folders: "c:/system/Apps/phone/oplogo". Add a .bmp picture to folder "oplogo" and restart your phone! The .bmp picture size needs to be: 97 x 25 pixels
Tip 11: Check if the recepients phone is on Delivery reports
or
Type *0# your message in the message composer window space then write your message, the recipient will not see the star zero hash bit - just the message When they read it it will relay a message back to your fone showing the time they recieved it. (haven't yet tried it myself though)

Software Update for Nokia N9 phones...

Read on to find out how...

Your phone shows you a notification message in the Events view, as soon as updates are available for your phone software or for individual applications. To view and to install the updates, just tap on the notification message.
You can also check for updates manually
1. Select Settings > Applications > Manage applications.
2. Open the Updates tab to see available updates and follow on-screen instructions
Note: It is recommended to use Wi-Fi for the update and create a backup using Nokia Link beforehand.

Nokia Mobile Original batteries...

Protect your phone - make sure to use original Nokia batteries.
For the best performance on your Nokia phone, always make sure to purchase an original Nokia battery from a reliable, Nokia-authorized store.
Nokia offers two types of batteries:
   - Batteries with hologram label                         -Batteries without hologram label

If you are using a battery with a hologram label, refer to the guidance below to verify that your battery is an original Nokia battery.
If you have concerns about the authenticity of your battery, please follow the guidance below:
Check the logo
Look at the hologram label. You should see the Nokia Original Enhancements logo.
Check the dots
Angle the hologram and check the dots: to the left, right, bottom, and top of the logo, you should see one, two, three, and four dots respectively.

Stop using the battery
A non-original battery may result in poor performance and damage to your device. It may also invalidate any warranty.
Have your battery inspected
Visit your local Nokia Care Point and have the battery inspected for authenticity.
Return the battery
If your Nokia Care Point can't verify that your battery is original, return it to the place of purchase.

A soft and Hard reset

A Soft-reset - the process of resetting all the settings of the phone to the factory default! No applications are deleted!
A Hard-reset is like formatting a drive! It does format the memory.
Everything that has been installed after the first use of the phone is deleted! It will recover the memory of the phone to the state you purchased it!
It is done by inputing the following code: *#7370#
NOTE: The battery must be full or the charger has to be connected to the phone so that it does not run out of power and make the phone unusable
Start up in Safe Mode so no 'auto start' apps will be running:
To make sure that no memory-resident programs start when you reboot your phone,
hold down the pencil key when you turn on the phone and hold it on untill you have to enter your PIN code.
(When you have trouble booting up the phone with the MMC in it because it got corrupted for some reason, this trick will almost always let you boot up the phone so you can remove the latest installed app which might have caused the problem or if your phone is "unrepairable" you can still back up your important data before you do a format.

How to increase mobile phone battery life.

Are you the kind of person for whom a mobile phone is more than just a necessity and is more of a lifeline? And you wish your battery did not run out on you so often? It is possible to get more out of your battery, you just have to keep a few things in mind.

GET THE MOST FROM YOUR CELL PHONE BATTERY
Prevent the Memory Effect - Keep the battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Exceptions to the rule are Li-Ion batteries, which do not suffer from the memory effect. Do not leave the battery dormant for long periods of time.
Always use a battery charger, which is by the same manufacturer as your phone, it gives it more life. It also helps if you overcharge your battery now and then.
Keep the Batteries Clean - It's a good idea to clean dirty battery contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol. This helps maintain a good connection between the battery and the portable device.
Do not leave your cell phone near any source of heat, a common place being the dashboard of your car, as extreme heat may affect the battery. The battery also operates better at room temperature, vis-à-vis extreme cold.
The vibrator mode of your cell phone consumes more battery, so when not needed, use the ring-tone mode.
Battery Storage - If you don't plan on using the battery for a month or more, store it in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects. Batteries tend to de-charge when not in use, so make sure you charge them again before using. The performance of any cell phone battery, however, no matter how properly cared for, usually diminishes after about a year. It is better to get your battery replaced then.
NiMH Li - Ion and Lithium Polymer
Made from Nickel Metal Hydride. Made from Lithium Ion.
Higher energy density. Twice the capacity of NiCad. Same energy as NIMH, but weigh 20-35% less.
More run time. More run time, at lighter weight, thus ideal for cell phones, camcorders etc.
Battery's capacity reduces over time due to frequent recharging. Can be recharged without capacity reducing
Environment friendly, since they do not contain heavy metals. Environment friendly, as they do not contain mercury or cadmium and other such toxic metals.
Require less maintenance. Require little maintenance.
Phones cost- Rs. 4,000 to Rs.6,000 Phones cost- Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 45,000

  FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
My new battery isn't charging. Is it defective?
One needs to discharge and recharge a new battery at least 2-4 times for it to reach it's maximum rated capacity, as most of these new batteries, are not charged. An overnight charge or 12 hours, is a good enough time for your battery. An indication could be the battery getting warm to the touch. When charging the battery for the first time, the device may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is normal with

rechargeable batteries. New batteries are hard for the device to charge; they have never been fully charged and not "broken in." Sometimes the device's charger will stop charging a new battery before it is fully charged. If this happens, remove the battery from the device and then reinsert it. The charge cycle should begin again.
    What is "memory effect"?
A partially discharged battery at times does not fully discharges before recharging. It sort of "forgets" to do so. This is what is the memory effect. For e.g. if you fully charge your battery and then use only 50% of its capacity before the next recharge, eventually the battery will become unaware of its extra 50% capacity, which has remained unused. The battery will remain functional, but only at 50% of its original capacity. To deal with this, always fully discharge your battery, before recharging it. This can be done by, unplugging the device's AC adapter and letting the device run on the battery until it ceases to function. This will help your battery remain healthy.

What Are Volts and Milliamp-hours (mAH)?
These are ratings on every battery. Milliamp-hours or (mAH), is one-thousandth of an amp-hour (1AH = 1000mAH). The voltage of the new battery should always match the voltage of your original unless the batteries are different chemistries. NiMH and Li-Ion batteries have different voltage ratings, even if they're for the same device.
How long do typical batteries last?

Generally, 11/2 - 3 years, or 500-800 charge-discharge cycles. As the rechargeable battery begins to die, there is a decline in the running time of the battery, till it reaches to 50% of its running time, and you need a new battery.
Can I recycle my old battery?
NiCad, NiMH and Li-Ion batteries should be recycled. Be environmentally conscious - do NOT throw these batteries in the trash.
How long will my new battery run?
Battery run-time is difficult to determine. Actual battery running time depends upon the power demands made by the mobile phone. The use of the screen, the device and other accessories results in an additional drain upon the battery, effectively reducing its running time. The total run-time of the battery is also dependent upon the design of the mobile phone.

DOs AND DON'Ts OF BATTERY USE
    Battery Do's:
  • Fully charge/discharge battery up to 4 cycles before achieving full capacity of a new battery
  • Fully discharge and then fully charge the battery every two to three weeks.
  • Run the device under the battery's power until it shuts down or until you get a low battery warning. Then recharge the battery as instructed in the user's manual.

  • Remove from the device and store in a cool, dry, clean place if the battery will not be in use for a month or longer.
  • Recharge the battery after a storage period Ensure maximum performance of the battery by optimizing the device's power management features. Refer to the manual for further instructions.
  • Battery Don'ts:
  • Do not short-circuit. A short-circuit may cause severe damage to the battery.

  • Do not drop, hit or otherwise abuse the battery as this may result in the exposure of the cell contents, which are corrosive.

  • Do not expose the battery to moisture or rain.

  • Keep battery away from fire or other sources of extreme heat. Do not incinerate. Exposure of battery to extreme heat may result in an explosion
  • Tip:
Turn off the phone, take out the battery and put it in again. Rest batteries for 24 hours before charging. It is known that generally even when your phone is "sleeping", it is not.
    Protect your phone against thefts:
The International Mobile Equipment Identity umber (IMEI) (a 15 digit code) is programmed in the phone at the time of manufacture. This will help the police track down the phone if it is stolen. To know this number: 1. Type *#06# on the mobile. 2. A number appears. 3. Confirm this with the number on the battery. If this does not match then it means that the phone has been tampered with or is refurbished. 4. Note the number in a safe place.

Nokia Codes Tips and Tricks

  • To check the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) Type-
  • *#06#
  • Information you get from the IMEI-
  • XXXXXX  XX  XXXXXX  X
  •     TAC      FAC     SNR      SP
  •
  • TAC = Type approval code
  • FAC = Final assembly code
  • SNR = Serial number
  • SP    = Spare
  • To check the phones Software revision type-
  • *#0000#
  • Information you get from the Software revision-
  • V 05.31
  • 18-02-99
  • NSE-3
  • 1ST Line  = Software revision
  • 2ND Line = The date of the software release
  • 3RD Line = Phone type
  • To enter the service menu type-
  • *#92702689# (*#WAR0ANTY#)
  • Serial number (IMEI)
  • Production date (MM/YY)
  • Purchase date (MM/YY) You can only enter the date once.
  • Date of last repair (0000=No repair)
  • Transfer user data to another Nokia phone via Infra-Red
  • Clock Stopping
  • To check weather your SIM Card supports clock stopping type-
  • *#746025625# (*#SIM0CLOCK#)
  • Revealing the Headphone and Car-Kit menus
  • Please note that if you do these next tricks, the new menus can't be erased without retoring the factory default settings. To do these tricks you need to short-circuit the pins on the bottom of the phone next to where you plug in you charger.
  • 1. To activate the "Headset" menu, you need to short-circuit pins "3" and "4". After a short time the word "Headset" will be shown in the display. Menu 3-6 is now enabled.
  • 2. To activate the "Car" menu, you need to short-circuit pins "4" and "5". After a short time the word "Car" will be shown in the display. Menu 3-7 is now enabled.
  • THE REBOOT TRICK
  • This should work on all software versions of the 6110.
  • 1. Go to the Calendar (Menu-8)
  • 2. Make a note or reminder.
  • 3. Enter some text into the edit box.
  • 4. Hold "Clear" until the whole text is cleared, then press "Back".
  • 5. Press "0". The main screen will now be showing but a space appears on the screen. (you can't see it)
  • 6. Enter 4 digits (e.g. 1234).
  • 7. Use the down arrow to move the cursor to the left side of the numbers and the space (Down arrow twice).
  • 8. Now enter 6 digits and press the call button.
  • Wait for a few seconds, the screen should start to flash and reboots. It should alsowork on other menus like the "Profiles" menu.
  • EFR CALL QUALITY
  • To activate EFR (Enhanced Full Rate) Enter the code-
  • *3370#
  • This improves call quality but decreases batterylife by about 5%
  • To deactivate it, Enter the code-
  • #3370#
  • THE JAMES BOND TRICK
  • If you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connections touching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing volume to "Mute". Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it. The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are saying.
  • NETWORK MONITOR
  • There is a hidden menu inside your Nokia phone. If you want to activate it, you'll have to re-program some chips inside of your phone.
  • Check your software version. You can only continue if you have v4.33, v4.73 or v5.24.
  • Take apart the phone.
  • De-solder the EEPROM (ATMEL AT 24C64).
  • Read out the data with an EEPROM programmer and save it to a file (Backup).
  • If you have v.33 or v4.73, change the address "03B8" from "00" to "FF".
  • If you have v5.24 then change the address "0378" from "00" to "FF".
  • Write the new data to the EEPROM and solder it back to the phone,
  • Power on your phone and you should have "Netmonitor" enabled.
  • The Network Monitor gives you the following information.
  •
  • Carrier number
  • MS RX Level in DBM
  • Received signal quality
  • MS TX power level
  • C1 (Path loss criterion, used for cell selection and reselection). The range is -99 to 99.
  • RTL (Radio link timeout).
  • Timeslot
  • Indication of the transmitter status
  • Information on the Network parameters.
  • TMSI (Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity).
  • Cell identification (Cell ID, Number of cells being used).
  • MCC (Mobile country code)
  • MCN (Mobile network code)
  • LAC (Location area code)
  • Ciphering (On/Off)
  • Hopping (On/Off)
  • DTX (On/Off)
  • Discard cell barred information
  •
  • CHECK SIM-LOCK
  • Note - If you bought your Nokia on UK Vodafone or UK Cellnet you do not need to check this because they both transmit on GSM900, and they don't lock the phones. However if you bought your phone on UK Orange or UK One2one your phone may be blocked. The reason is that they both transmitt on GSM1800. To make a call on GSM1800 you need what is known as a "Dual band" phone. A dual band phone is able to transmit on both GSM900 and GSM1800, so they lock the phones so you can't use it with any other network simcard. If you find that your phone is locked you can try different software to unlock it. (we havn't found one that works yet), or you can ask your service provider who will gladly exchange the 10 digit code for about £35.
  • This is how to check the status of the 4 different locks. Aslo don't try entering the wrong number, because after 3 times it will block the phone for good.
  • There are 4 different locks on your Nokia phone.
  • COUNTRY-LOCK
  • NETWORK-LOCK
  • PROVIDER-LOCK
  • SIMCARD-LOCK
  • The code to read out the sim-lock status of your phone is
  • #PW+(MASTERCODE)+(Y)#
  • # = DOUBLE-CROSS
  • W = PRESS "*" THREE TIMES
  • P = PRESS "*" FOUR TIMES
  • + = PRESS "*" TWO TIMES
  • MASTERCODE = 1234567890
  • Y = NUMBER 1 TO 4
  • The master code is a secret code. The code has 10 digits, To read out the sim-lock status you can enter every combination you want!
  • "Y" Shows the status of the network-lock. Here you can enter a number from "1" to "4". The "4" is for the sim-card lock.
  • SIM-LOCK CHECKS
  • #PW+1234567890+1# = GIVES PROVIDER-LOCK STATUS
  • #PW+1234567890+2# = GIVES NETWORK-LOCK STATUS
  • #PW+1234567890+3# = GIVES COUNTRY-LOCK STATUS
  • #PW+1234567890+4# = GIVES SIM-CARD-LOCK STATUS.

10 things you don't know about NOKIA

1) The ringtone "Nokia tune" is actually based on a 19th century guitar work named "Gran Vals" by Spanish musician Francisco Tárrega. The Nokia Tune was originally named "Grande Valse" on Nokia phones but was changed to "Nokia Tune" around 1998 when it became so well known that people referred to it as the "Nokia Tune."

2) The world's first commercial GSM call was made in 1991 in Helsinki over a Nokia-supplied network, by Prime Minister of Finland Harri Holkeri, using a Nokia phone.

3) Nokia is currently the world's largest digital camera manufacturer, as the sales of its camera-equipped mobile phones have exceeded those of any conventional camera manufacturer.

4) The "Special" tone available to users of Nokia phones when receiving SMS (text messages) is actually Morse code for "SMS". Similarly, the "Ascending" SMS tone is Morse code for "Connecting People," Nokia's slogan. The "Standard" SMS tone is Morse code for "M" (Message).

5) The Nokia corporate font (typeface) is the AgfaMonotype Nokia Sans font, originally designed by Eric Spiekermann. Its mobile phone User's Guides Nokia mostly used the Agfa Rotis Sans font.

6) In Asia, the digit 4 never appears in any Nokia handset model number, because 4 is considered unlucky in many parts of Southeast/East Asia.

7) Nokia was listed as the 20th most admirable company worldwide in Fortune's list of 2006 (1st in network communications, 4th non-US company).

8. Unlike other modern day handsets, Nokia phones do not automatically start the call timer when the call is connected, but start it when the call is initiated. (Except for Series 60 based handsets like the Nokia 6600)

9) Nokia is sometimes called aikon (Nokia backwards) by non-Nokia mobile phone users and by mobile software developers, because "aikon" is used in various SDK software packages, including Nokia's own Symbian S60 SDK.

10) The name of the town of Nokia originated from the river which flowed through the town. The river itself, Nokianvirta, was named after the old Finnish word originally meaning sable, later pine marten. A species of this small, black-furred predatory animal was once found in the region, but it is now extinct.

Symbians Mobile Tips & Tricks..

Tip 2 : Shit happens, on a smartphone, its inevitable u do something wrong, and tis calls for a format of fone. to format the fone, press *#7370#, then enter the lock code, which is the sec code of the fone. NOTE: batt must b full, else if format is disrupted by low batt, consequences will b disatrous
I heard the code *#7780# works too, pretty much the same i tink.
for 6600 users, to format the fone, theres an alternative way. Tip 12: BlueJacking
First up, you need to know what Bluetooth is.

Tip 13: While you are viewing a picture in your phone's gallery, press one of these shortcut keys (definitely works on 6600, not sure about other symbians)
1 - turn image anticlockwise
3 - turn image clockwise
* - toggle on/off of full screen
5 - zoom in
0 - zoom out
#15 u can select all files in a folder by selecting THE folder and copy it then paste it somewhere. however u need to make a new directory. fexplorer wun let u copy that folder together. well seleQ can mark files to copy but it really takes time!

Why assigning Video Recorder in the right or left soft key does not work?

(Sound Recorder is launched instead of Video Recorder)
It's a bug with firmware version 2.50.
How to check your firmware version:

A "Firmware" is the phone's operating system stored in internal Flash memory of the device (disk Z.
Manufacturers release new firmware versions containing bug fixes, improvements and - sometimes - offering new functions.
Firmware upgrade can only be made in authorized Nokia service centre (point).
To check your current firmware version simply type *#0000# on main Phone screen.
·
How to check your IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity)?

Type *#06# on main Phone screen.

Start up in Safe Mode so no 'auto start' apps will be running:

To make sure that no memory-resident programs start when you reboot your phone,
hold down the pencil key when you turn on the phone and hold it on untill you have to enter your PIN code.
(When you have trouble booting up the phone with the MMC in it because it got corrupted for some reason, this trick will
almost always let you boot up the phone so you can remove the latest installed app which might have caused the
problem or if your phone is "unrepairable" you can still back up your important data before you do a format.)
Q: How to totally format your Nokia 3650 and remove all installed applications, user files and restore all
settings to default like it's new out of the box? (OEM apps won't be deleted like Camera and RealOne Player).

A: First Format your MMC: Menu > Extras > Memory > Options > Format mem. card > Yes.
Note: It is very important to format your MMC before you format your phone!
Then format your phone by typing *#7370# on main Phone screen.
Phone will ask: "Restore all original phone settings? Phone will restart." Press 'Yes' and enter your Lock code (default is 12345).
Tip: Formatting takes several minutes so you'd better connect your Nokia 3650
to a charger to ensure that your battery doesn't get empty in the middle of formatting.
Note: All your created acces points and mailboxes will be lost so take a note of them. And all application settings will be reset.
E.g. In Camera, image quality is set back to normal and memory in use is set back to phone memory. And also in Messages,
memory in use is set back to phone memory, etc. Also backup your contacts with PC Suite or a program like Contacts Manager.

To reset your wallet, should you forget your code,
Type in:
*#7370925538#
this will reset the wallet code, the wallet contents will be deleted.

How to free more RAM on your phone >>>

>>> Method 1: Flight mode:

Put your phone in "Flight mode" with Psiloc System Tools. Install System Tools, open it and select "Flight mode". This way you can restart the phone without your SIM card so there will be no running phone tasks in the background. Now you can have up to 3,5 MB of free RAM!
Note: ironically enough, Flight mode doesn't work when Smart Launcher is installed, at least in my case.
But i've also heard several reports of people who have both apps running without any problems.

>>> Method 2: Smart Launcher trick:

Install Smart Launcher and open it. Go to Options, Settings and put Launcher ON.
Now plug in your charger and switch off your phone. Wait untill the battery meter appears and short press the Menu button (don't hold).
The menu should appear and now you can have 3,5 to 4,5 MB free RAM! (Hold Menu button to check RAM).
The trick is that with the charger plugged in, the phone must get a minimum software support for charging, even when
the phone is switched off. And somehow Smart Launcher has still got it's shortcut running and that's the Menu button. So when
you press the Menu button, you go directly to the Menu without any other phone tasks running in the background so
you trick the phone and you have more free RAM!
Note: when you unplug the charger, the phone will switch off.

>>> Method 3: Menu :

This method I found it by myself, it frees a little about 100~200 KB but I guess it's useful sometime
Close your menu not by selecting the right selection key "exit", or pressing the menu key another time, they only hide the menu app but do not close it, to close it select the left selection key "option" and scroll down and select "exit"
So when you open an app needs more ram reopen menu and close it, it's useful when play low bit rate video in realplayer paradis.
